A delayed “evening edition” of the photo-a-day today. We got our shipment from Full Circle Farms today for the first time since we went to Belize. We got a pair of blood oranges to match up with the pairs of lemons and limes we had from the store the other day. These suckers are huge! Happy to have collected all six, and used a lemon and a lime today for bevvies and fish for dinner. Nom.

]]> https://smittenandspun.com/blog/2012/02/08/collect-all-six/feed/ 0 Unknown Garden https://smittenandspun.com/blog/2009/06/24/unknown-garden/ https://smittenandspun.com/blog/2009/06/24/unknown-garden/#comments Wed, 24 Jun 2009 20:18:52 +0000 smitten http://smittenandspun.com/blog/?p=8 JuneberriesThere is plenty of color to admire in our front yard.  Much of it seems like seasonal “pretties” to enjoy from afar, however, today I found some real juicy jewels.  Juneberries.  Who knew that the recent influx of birds to the little tree was for these tiny morsels?  They’re tasty!  Kind of like a blueberry in shape and size, but sweeter and they have seeds.  However, the seeds are kind of what makes them a seasonal delight as they bring an almond-esque flavor to the berry.  I think we need to bake with them, or at least alert the neighbors about their fruit stand growing in their front yard!

If we do end up making jam, baking with them, etc, we’ll be sure to post up some photos.  Spun will be thrilled that we don’t have to merely count on the alley fruit (blackberries) this summer to get our micro-local produce fix!
