Spun and I had an interesting Valentine’s day. We worked on a project inspired by love for the morning, pushing pixels, fusing ideas and making some beautiful visions come to life.

While we didn’t have a big bash of ourselves, it was great working together again … something we’ve talked a lot about doing, but have just now gotten the opportunity to do since I started working from home.

Definitely a great celebration of love, even of we didn’t go all out on the Hallmark holiday itself.

Two years ago, Spun and I were wed under this very ampersand in the Olympic Sculpture Park on the north end of Seattle. We loved the idea of Smitten AND Spun (aka Bill & Kim), the waterfront AND park, an intimate AND public setting. The piece we were married on is entitled “Love & Loss”. We were amazed at the reverence of people that passed by, pausing for a moment on their stroll, jog, or bike ride. We loved that little kids paid no mind to us standing on the lower S, instead playing with the water in the O and jumping around on the benches. The trains whipped by, planes flew overhead and Seattle kept humming while we took our vows in front of a handful of amazing souls.

And is a funny word. It’s possessive. It joins. It has the opportunity to make things infinitely better than you could ever imagine. All of these things happened when I anded myself to Kim. We became one entity, a united front of joy, creativity and life. Over the past two years, we have “anded” more friends, art, stories and love to our fold than I would have ever conceived possible when we stood in the sun two years ago.

For all intents and purposes, this should be a rant right now. It is, however, somewhat of a reflection on what I love to do and how that sometimes works out poorly.

Last night, around 10pm I started upgrading to iOS 5.0 Beta. I knew that I should have been climbing into bed momentarily, but the temptation for shininess was too great. I had to get it onto my iPhone 4 and iPad. Four hours later, I was crawling into bed with a bricked iPhone and an iPad that was still going through a restoration process. The main culprit, from what I could gather, was not the installation process of the new iOS. It was, instead our internet dropping out RIGHT at a critical moment when iTunes and xCode needed to talk with some Apple server and couldn’t. Thus a communication meltdown led to a late night and early morning breakdown that rivaled … well the last time I tried to do the exact same thing for my iPhone 3Gs.

So it’s my own damn fault that I stayed up late and am exhausted today. No mistake about that one. Spun and I now have a rule that no major technological endeavors will begin after 10pm. This love, hate relationship I have with staying on the cusp of Apple technology is good to a point. However, there comes a time when I need to break free from the chains that tether me to this aging love-affair and do things that are actually important … like snuggle with my wife and sleep a full eight hours. Thankfully, iOS 5 is one step ahead of me by making updates wireless to the cloud. Perhaps we can work a clause into the new rule for unless working from a pillowtop mattress on iCloud tasks. I’m sure she’ll go for it.

As an aside, yes, this photo was one that was somewhat similar ages ago, which was intentional. My phone was in a weird limbo zone where it hadn’t fully been restored as I was walking in. It was half alive, half dead still. As a result, I figured a photo of a former life for the iPhone would be fitting. Also, this is the corner where I laid into a canvasser yesterday for running towards me as I was running up the hill with my skateboard. Cancel, cancel. Love, love.

Yesterday our dear friends David and Alyssa got hitched. It was truly a magnificent culmination to a beautiful week. Just down the beach from the villa they rented we camped out on white chairs, and enjoyed the waves crashing just beyond the two love birds. Later we had good drinks, a massive set of fireworks off the coast, a pool party and well, more tequila. We couldn’t be happier for you two, for the friends you have surrounded yourselves with and the adventures you’re about to embark on … and the countless ones to come thereafter. Congrats kids!

Spun and I loved working together in our shop sewing and silk screening the canvas tote bags (photos coming soon) and necklaces, bracelets and earrings for the bridal party (again, more photos soon). We couldn’t be more thrilled with how well they were received and we’re grateful for your thanks and gratitude throughout the week. Truly, our pleasure.
