This weekend I learned a few things from hanging out with two of the coolest kids in the world.

1) Pickles live in attics … which is likely why seagulls knock at windows upstairs and

2) The little things in life put the big things into a better perspective.

More often than not, we race through our work week, pining for the weekend, hat concert, or the next vacation. There were so many moments that we spent playing dominoes, building sand castles, throwing a frisbee, getting chased by waves, feeding seagulls, exploring pipes with awful green bubbly slime, that all in all, I probably got no more than 10 hours of sleep for the weekend.

We packed each day full to the brim, and I’m going I ensure that once I get that sleep back, I keep up this mantra … enjoying every waking moment with those I love. Whether we’re exploring tide pools or just laying in the sun on the couch, there’s always something to smile and giggle about. You just have to have some imagination and a unique perspective on the world around you.

Cannon Beach is amazing. Friends are amazing. Friends’ kids are even more amazing.

Candy store. Beers, chocolate vodka an cherry jello shots, taco night, face plants while skim boarding, treasure chests buried with hidden arrows in the sand, tide pools, kites, massive rocks and tons of cards.

We wouldn’t have traded this weekend for anything. Love, love, love this weekend and our dear friends who we spent it with.

You guys, and your kids rule the school so hard we shall forever think of you as the principals.

So we took a wrong turn and suddenly ended up on a ferry, not in Astoria … but we got there eventually. $5 and six other cars on this tiny little floating barge with a crow’s nest and a short jaunt across the Columbia River, and we were bak on our way to Cannon Beach. Win. Gotta love random detours in life. We even saw a bald eagle while going up the river.

The view from our room at the Hyatt Regency inside DFW airport. Made it over to Billy Bob’s Texas last night to see Willie Nelson perform. Definitely something on the bucket list that is checked off. We were also able to witness infants at smoke filled bars, mirror encrusted saddles (where a disco ball should hang), professional bull riding, more sequins than I’ve ever seen at any Seattle drag show (which is saying something) and fried everything. Oh and recycling? Forget about it.

Happy to keep heading south past The South to Central America today. Let’s do this Belize. Can’t wait to see your non-concrete jungle.

Today Spun and I went to the Seattle Art Museum. We saw the Luminous exhibit, which showcased a ton of great Asian art. We saw the Great Wave and a handful of Chinese copper vessels from 1500-1000 BC that, coincidentally, I studied in an Asian Art History class at the University of Puget Sound. Stunning in real life. This is the Coat of Arms which is made of dog tags and has been on display for years. It’s near my favorite piece in the museum, the big black rat sitting on the sleeping guy. I love how the rat and the man are flat black and flat white respectively. Always what I love to see when I go. Below is a close up of the tags. It seems like they just go in forever.

Yoda makes my inner geek happy. Graffiti Yoda tickles my art side too. Add in the thought of heading to Belize and I’m giddy.

For years now I’ve been seeing these Blink stickers around. They’re everywhere around Seattle. They seem to be nestled into spots that you generally wouldn’t look as well which is somewhat like a bit of a reward. I feel like I should be getting some sort of achievement or bonus prize for “collecting all six.” Perhaps I’ll snap a few more in the coming weeks as I see them so that they can be documented around town.

I love this sculpture. It’s right down at the Othello Light Rail station on the southbound side. I’ve been looking forward to shooting it for some time now, happy that today was a great day for it.

Partner yoga at the villa. Nothing like a rooftop session to kick a Cubano bar hangover. What a fun night last night. This bar was great. They let you sign your name anywhere you want with a marker. The whole place had been tagged up since the 1940s. Such a great spot. Capariñas, dancing and 800% humidity made for a great post mariachi meal.
