Two years ago, Spun and I were wed under this very ampersand in the Olympic Sculpture Park on the north end of Seattle. We loved the idea of Smitten AND Spun (aka Bill & Kim), the waterfront AND park, an intimate AND public setting. The piece we were married on is entitled “Love & Loss”. We were amazed at the reverence of people that passed by, pausing for a moment on their stroll, jog, or bike ride. We loved that little kids paid no mind to us standing on the lower S, instead playing with the water in the O and jumping around on the benches. The trains whipped by, planes flew overhead and Seattle kept humming while we took our vows in front of a handful of amazing souls.

And is a funny word. It’s possessive. It joins. It has the opportunity to make things infinitely better than you could ever imagine. All of these things happened when I anded myself to Kim. We became one entity, a united front of joy, creativity and life. Over the past two years, we have “anded” more friends, art, stories and love to our fold than I would have ever conceived possible when we stood in the sun two years ago.

You and I, my Love. Forever and a day. My heart and yours. oxoxo

There are a few perfect days in Seattle. Calm air, clear skies, the teetering of summer ending and something all together new emerging. Generally these days fall in September here in Seattle and it’s a somewhat guarded secret. Would you really want to share the best days of the year with tousands of tourists who just want to run around your city shooting photos and causing traffic jams? I didn’t think so either.

To make this perfect day even more … well, perfect. Spun and I got married. We are officially husband and wife now. She looked stunning. With a necklace she made, a fascinator that we finished the morning of, a beautiful bouquet of flowers and the perfect white dress she was the bride, MY bride of what dreams are made of. Oh and the shoes she wore were stellar. Well played my love!!

In flip flops and toting a bunch of camera gear, we I parked the car and met up with everyone at the Olympic Sculpture Park. We found our location, the rotating ‘&’ directly on the waterfront, and kicked off the ceremony. Libby, our officiant, wrote the most elegant and personal piece for us to not only illustrate the seriousness of our vows, but also the joy that they possess. Flanked by our two witnesses, and new friends of the relationship, Meghan and Charley and our dear friends Teri and John who were documentary film makers for the morning, we had the intimate wedding we truly yearned for. Their wonderful photos can be found here.

Our vows were crafted with love, poetry, references to music, art, cheese and math. The were filled with promises, thanks, joy and adoration. We stood under the ‘&’ and became ‘husband & wife’. Not just simply best friends, or lovers, spiritual sounding boards, or mental equals … we became husband & wife. Forever yoked by a bond so strong that will hopefully transcend time, one that will cultivate deep loving bonds around the world wherever we tarry, one that is based in respect and trust and now has blossomed into the most beautiful flower relationships can offer; a union of two souls.

I love you Spun.

- Smitten

PS, Photos have been uploaded to shutterfly. Â Thanks John!

Spun and I are getting married. *smile* In a numerical twist of fate, I have started this blog 109 days before the planned date of 10.10.09 where we will blissfully shout our “I Do”s and begin a new chapter of romance and joy.

A little history on us. We’re both artists, nerds, music lovers, foodies and glass-is-always-half-full-if-not-more type people. We love to work with our hands, but embrace our minds equally. We’re as comfortable with a mouse and keyboard as we are with grinders, torches, paint brushes and a sewing machines. We love art. It fills our home, is our foundation for much of the beauty in our relationship and served as the closing piece to Chapter 1. If you haven’t read or heard about Chapter 1, you will as both Spun and I enjoy a good flashback in history to provide solid references for stories of today.

In the coming pages, you’ll find handmade works of art and jewelry, heartwarming stories of love and romance, a stroll through just over three months of planning our wedding, home remodeling, a pair of rambunctious cats, tasty food and beverages, smiles, laughter and tears. Oh, and all of it will be with a good smattering of technology and humor.

kickIt( );
